Hello,
I’ve got the i5 8GB Surface Laptop 3 (13.5-inch), and today, while browsing the internet, I noticed a fairly faint buzzing sound coming from under the keyboard. It was faint enough you couldn’t hear it from a couple metres away, and sometimes buzzed continuously, other times buzzed in short repetitive bursts.
It didn’t sound like the fan to me, so I opened up the task manager to see if browsing was straining the computer in some way.
I have updated the computer completely, but the buzzing persisted.
Is this a normal electronics problem? Is it actually just the fan? Or is it possibly a defective unit?
Edit/Update:
I took the device into the MS Store today to see if there was something wrong. The staff took it into the back and tested it. They found increasing the computer's workload caused the sound to increase and described it as a popping static-y sound. They replaced the device and I have a new one now. Unfortunately, I've found through usage that this one is also making the sound. I am waiting to see if a firmware update reduces the noise since it seems pervasive across the devices.

Microsoft ... it's a shame ... I live in Russia and I bought this device thinking that it meets the world name and high quality ... but how wrong I was ... Why is your top device buzzing when the charger is connected ... Write already some update for him ... Not a laptop, but just a stove ... a disgrace to the whole world ... !!!
Its a sad reality, that all MS Surface laptop have hardware defects.
it worsens as the time will pass. i replaced 3 devises and finally gave up. so hardly using this devise.
What bothers me is that none of the Devise vlogger ever shared this information on their you tube channel.

I am facing exactly the same issue. Screen started flickering a lot and buzzing sound is getting louder. The devise is hardly few months old.
I listen to every laptop 3 and laptop 4 that I see now. They all buzz…The new doozy is a random screen flickering that started about a month ago. The only way I was able to get rid of it was to restore from an old backup image. After searching the issue, it seems that many people started having it around the same time. I can only assume it is an update that caused this.
