Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If this is a personal Microsoft account and the code is going to an old phone number, use one of these supported paths:
- On the sign-in screen, select I don't have any of these if that option is shown, then follow the prompts to recover the account and add new security information.
- If another verification method is still available, sign in to the Security page at https://account.microsoft.com/security.
- Select Manage how I sign in.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify and add another available method.
Important details:
- A new phone number option may not be available for personal Microsoft accounts. Available methods can include a recovery email address, Microsoft Authenticator, or a passkey.
- Do not change all security info at the same time, because the account may be restricted for 30 days.
- If the phone number being added is already linked to another Microsoft account, select Change number and use a different mobile number.
- If the number belongs to another Microsoft account that is also owned by the same person, Transfer may appear. If it does not appear, the number was used recently on another account and a different number must be used for now. If the number is new, try again after 30 days.
- If verification codes are not arriving, avoid excessive repeated requests because that can temporarily block code delivery.
If this is a work or school account, the phone number used for MFA usually cannot be changed while locked out. Another admin must reset the MFA settings so new contact methods can be registered again.
