I have my android S22+ backing up pictures to OneDrive. If I delete a picture on my phone, will it delete it on OneDrive?

If photos are being backed up through the OneDrive app’s Camera backup on Android, deleting a picture from the phone does not delete the copy in OneDrive. Camera backup is one-way backup, not two-way sync.

If the phone is using Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive instead, deletion does sync both ways, so deleting in Samsung Gallery can also delete it from OneDrive.

For an S22+, check which method is being used:

Open the OneDrive app.
Tap the Account Profile in the top left.
Select Camera backup.
If Camera backup is on, new photos upload automatically and the OneDrive copy is not affected when the device copy is deleted.

Important: with Samsung Gallery, files modified or deleted in Gallery are reflected in the cloud and across synced devices.

With the OneDrive app's own Camera backup, deleting a photo from your phone doesn't remove the OneDrive copy because it only uploads and never mirrors deletions.

And the direct link between Samsung Gallery and OneDrive is being shut off on September 30, 2026. Photos already synced will stay stored in OneDrive and can be opened through the OneDrive app, but they'll no longer appear in your Gallery. After that date, the OneDrive app's Camera backup is how you'll keep backing up.
