Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
If the sign-in fails with a verification error, use the matching fix for the verification method:
- If the sign-in used a phone call, respond by pressing
#on the phone. - If the sign-in used a text message, enter the verification code exactly as received.
- Select Other verification options and try a different method if one is available.
- Check that the phone number saved in the account security settings is correct.
- If the error appears during password reset for a work or school account, the account may not have a phone number on file. In that case, the administrator must update the telephone number.
- If the account is being temporarily blocked during verification, try another verification method, try another network, and avoid repeated attempts. Waiting 24 hours can help, and in some cases it may take longer.
- For Microsoft account sign-in issues, use the Sign-in helper.
- If verification codes are not arriving, another method may be required. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details.
- "Account verification system is having trouble" error message when you try to sign in by using a work or school account
- Error when you try to reset your password in Azure, Office 365, or Intune: We could not verify your account
