- Select Network on the lock screen.
- If Wi‑Fi is weak, connect with Ethernet if possible.
- In some cases, Windows sign-in can fail without an internet connection.
- Use the reset options on the sign-in screen.
- If the PIN fails, select I forgot my PIN.
- If the password fails, use I forgot my password if shown.
- If using a local account password, reset it from the sign-in screen.
- Select the arrow next to the password field.
- Select OK > Reset password.
- Answer the security questions set for that account.
- If the Microsoft account password is not accepted, recover the account.
- Use Recover your account: Recover your account
- Make sure the correct account domain and account name are being used.
- Start in Safe Mode and sign in with the password.
- On the sign-in screen, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
- PIN and biometric sign-in are unavailable in Safe Mode, so use the password.
- If sign-in works there, restart normally and try again.
- If there is another account on the laptop, try that account.
- On the sign-in screen, select another account from the lower-left corner.
- After signing in, check for Windows updates.
- If the PIN issue started after updates or system changes, create the PIN again.
- If Windows prompts to create a PIN again, complete that setup.
- If PIN creation fails, sign out, sign back in, and try again.
Important: Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password. If password reset and account recovery do not work, use the sign-in helper or contact support through the official support flow.
