Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
If the verification code to the Gmail recovery address never arrives, use these steps:
- Search Gmail for messages from
accountprotection.microsoft.com. - In Gmail, open See all settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses and check whether messages from
accountprotection.microsoft.comare being blocked, forwarded, or filtered. - Try requesting the code again from a private/incognito browser window.
- Do not make many repeated code requests. High request volume or unusual activity can trigger a temporary block.
- If the sign-in page shows Try another verification method, use another recovery method already connected to the account if one is available.
- Try a different network, such as switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
- If the account appears temporarily blocked, wait at least 24 hours before trying again. If it still does not clear, wait longer, up to 1 week, and avoid repeated attempts because they can reset the time lock.
- If the password is no longer working, start account recovery here: Recover your account. Use the correct Microsoft account domain and, if the primary address is not recognized, try another alias or phone number already on the account.
- If the issue continues, use the Sign-in helper.
- If recovery still fails, contact support through Contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details, but they can route to available support options.
