Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
For Microsoft 365 for home on Windows, activation is done by signing in with the Microsoft account that was used to buy the subscription. No activation code is normally required.
- Open any Office app such as Word.
- If prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
- If the Activation wizard appears, follow the prompts.
- In the app, go to File > Account and confirm the signed-in account is the one tied to the purchase.
- Check whether the subscription appears on the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page.
If Office was preinstalled on a new Windows device, a trial may be installed instead. In that case, sign in with the purchasing account, or choose the option to buy, add Microsoft 365 to an existing subscription, or redeem a product key if applicable.
