Post: I am using Windows 11 with a personal Microsoft account as my primary Windows account. I also have a licensed Microsoft 365 work account:

  • Personal account: ******@gmail.com
  • Licensed work account: ******@crescantz.com
  • Shared mailbox: ******@crescantz.com

The Investor Relations address is configured in Exchange Online as a shared mailbox. I mistakenly attempted to sign into the shared mailbox directly. Windows now shows two entries labeled ******@crescantz.com under:

Settings → Accounts → Your accounts

One entry is my valid licensed work account. The other appears to be a cached identity created when I attempted to use the Investor Relations shared mailbox. Windows displays both entries with the same ******@crescantz.com address, even though one appears to represent the shared-mailbox sign-in.

The duplicate entry has only a Manage button. There is no Remove or Disconnect option.

Additional details:

  • The unwanted entry does not appear as a separate account in Word.
  • Word shows only my personal Microsoft account.
  • The shared mailbox is not connected to OneDrive.
  • The unwanted account does not have a Disconnect button under Windows account settings.
  • Credential Manager contains several MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 entries, but the entries do not identify which Microsoft account they belong to.
  • I do not want to delete those credentials blindly because I need to retain my valid personal and work accounts.
  • I understand that the shared mailbox should be accessed through mailbox delegation rather than by signing into it directly.

How can I remove only the cached shared-mailbox identity from Settings → Accounts → Your accounts without removing or disrupting the valid ******@crescantz.com account?Post:

    Hello

You are almost there but you are at the wrong setting space.

Go to your Windows Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School (note, it is the briefcase icon, not the little person icon). Then see if the organization email address is still listed? If so, click on it and then disconnect it.
