Since both Excel and Word close with a repair prompt, the best supported fix is to repair the full Office installation.

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open the Windows app list:
      • Windows 11: Right-click Start > Installed apps
      • Windows 10: Right-click Start > Apps and Features
    3. Find Microsoft 365 or Office.
    4. Select it, then choose Modify.
    5. If prompted, choose:
      • Online Repair for a full repair. This is the recommended option because it fixes more than Quick Repair.
      • If the installation is MSI-based, choose Repair and then Continue.
    6. Follow the on-screen steps to complete the repair.
    7. Restart the PC after the repair finishes.

If the apps still fail after repair, test whether an add-in is causing the crash:

    1. Press Windows + R.
    2. Run:
      • excel /safe
      • winword /safe
    3. If the app opens in Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
    4. In Manage, select the app add-ins or COM Add-ins, then select Go.
    5. Clear one add-in at a time, select OK, and restart the app normally.

If the app does not open in Safe Mode, the issue is more likely with the Office installation, so complete the full repair if that has not already been done.

    Hi,

I will work with you on this issue. Let me suggest a full reinstall.

    • Go to https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC to open the Get Help App.
    • When the tool opens, select Yes, and then click Next.
    • Choose the option to uninstall Microsoft 365, then follow the steps.
    • The tool will automatically detect your Office version and remove Microsoft 365 completely using a PowerShell window. It may take 10 to 15 minutes.
    • Once done, restart your PC.

You can reinstall Microsoft Office from the https://account.microsoft.com/services page by selecting the relevant option and verify if the problem resolves.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

Exit all Office apps and run an Online Repair. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application .

Since an Online Repair usually requires that you reinstall Office, before you begin, you should verify that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it.
