Sorry, supported version of office will not run on your macOS version, and older unsupported versions of office no longer work (have an expired certificate and can only read files)

The AI reply is correct. You need macOS 12 or later to run Microsoft Office on your Mac. See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/ .

If you can't upgrade your macOS installation, you can try an open source alternative such as LibreOffice which offers good file compatibility with Microsoft Office.

macOS 11.7.11 is below the minimum supported version for the current Microsoft 365 licensing update. That is why Office shows error 0x0 or goes into reduced functionality mode.

    What is supported:

    1. Update the Mac to macOS 12 (Monterey) or later.
    2. Then update Office to a supported build. For Mac, the minimum app version listed is 16.83.
    3. After updating, open the Office app again and test.

How to update Office on Mac:

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate.
    3. Select Update All or update individual Office apps.
    4. Reopen the Office app.

If Microsoft AutoUpdate is not visible, check: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/

If the Mac cannot be upgraded to macOS 12 or later, an older Office version is not presented as a supported fix for macOS 11.7.11 in the provided guidance. The documented resolution is to update the operating system first, then update Office. If that is not possible, the supported alternative mentioned in similar Microsoft Q&A is to use Microsoft 365 on the web.
