All the MS365 Office applications no longer save. My subscription does not run out until March next year, so what do I have to do in order to resolve the problem?

Geoff, your macOS is a bit outdated.

The current one should be 26.7, which was released on Sept 14th.

Please make sure you update that first. That alone can be the solution for the issue you are facing.

    =====================

If for any reason it is still not working, I am going to share the rest of the steps you can take, only if the above doesn't address the issue.

First, see if you can update your Office apps. Open Word for example, click on the 'Help' tab >Check for Updates. Make sure you choose Update All when prompted. Let the process run through, can take a bit time. See if that works.

Otherwise, use the Update method in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/support/known-issues/unknown-error-0x0-license-not-found-error-microsoft365-macos?apid=ets

If it still doesn't work, please uninstall the apps. Follow the instructions here for complete uninstall.

    https://support.microsoft.com/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-office-for-mac-issues-by-completely-uninstalling-before-you-reinstall?apid=ets

    Then reinstall this way:

If you signed up via Apple App Store, then download and install from the App Store.

If you signed up via Microsoft directly, please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

If it still doesn't work, download the updater https://support.microsoft.com/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-microsoft-autoupdate-in-microsoft-365-and-office-for-mac?apid=ets

If Microsoft 365 apps can open files but cannot save or edit, they are usually in reduced functionality mode. Since the subscription is supposed to be active until March, use this order:

    1. Verify the subscription is actually active on the correct account
      • For Microsoft 365 Family or Personal: go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account tied to the subscription. The active Microsoft 365 subscription should appear at the top.
      • For Microsoft 365 for business: go to My Account and check Subscriptions > View. Under licenses, the subscription should be listed. If it is not listed, contact the IT admin.
    2. If a subscription notice appears, check payment status
A yellow Account Notice can be triggered by a payment problem, such as an expired or cancelled card. Go to Payment options and update any payment method showing an error.
    3. Reconnect to the Internet and retry
If Office could not verify the subscription for an extended period, it can show Couldn’t Verify Subscription and eventually enter reduced functionality mode. Reconnect to the Internet and choose Retry.
    4. Completely uninstall and reinstall Microsoft 365
If the subscription is active but features still are not available, uninstall Office with the Microsoft uninstall troubleshooter, restart the PC when prompted, and then reinstall Microsoft 365.
      Notes from Microsoft:
      • The uninstall troubleshooter currently cannot uninstall Office 2024.
      • It must be run on the same Windows PC that has Office installed.
      • Windows 10 or later is required.
    5. If the subscription was recently renewed or purchased, confirm activation completed
If Microsoft 365 was bought as a physical box/card, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed.
    6. If still not resolved
      • For Microsoft 365 Family or Personal, contact Microsoft Support.
      • For work or school accounts, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or IT department.

If the subscription has actually expired, Office apps remain installed but switch to view/print-only mode, and saving or editing is unavailable until the subscription is renewed.
