Many people, myself included, have been having problem with many of the Microsoft Account Security pages. e.g.

I can't offer any advice except, try a Private/Incognito browser session. A different browser. Make sure JavaScript is enabled. And then just wait a few hours and try again. Sorry. Wish I could give you a better answer.

How do I verify a new alias I created?

Open a Private/Incognito browser session to https://account.live.com/names/manage If it's not listed, it didn't get created.

If in doubt, ask the Account Sign-In Helper what is the status of the alias.

    • In a Private/Incognito browser session, open: https://aka.ms/sign-in-helper
    • Scroll down to "Choose how you normally sign in, then enter your details"
    • Click "With an email address"
    • Enter your alias email address and click [OK]

Try these supported fixes for a personal Microsoft account alias issue:

    1. Go to Your info and open Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
    2. If the alias that should be primary is already listed, select Make primary next to it.
    3. If that does not work, add another alias first:
      • Select Add email or Add phone number.
      • Create a new Outlook.com alias or add an existing non-Microsoft email address.
      • Verify it.
      • Then set that new alias as primary.
    4. If the current primary alias matches an existing work or school account in Microsoft 365 or Azure Active Directory, change the primary alias to a different personal alias. If needed, remove the work email alias after switching.

Important limits and rules from Microsoft support:

    • An alias already associated with another Microsoft account cannot be added.
    • Existing @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, and @msn.com addresses cannot be added as aliases if they already exist elsewhere.
    • If alias changes were made recently, Microsoft may temporarily limit how often the primary alias can be changed and require waiting before trying again.

If the issue is in Outlook for Android or iOS after changing the primary alias, delete and re-add the account in Settings so the correct settings are imported.

If the problem continues, use Microsoft account support options from the account help page.
