Welcome Stephen Plunkett,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that after installing a new monitor, audio works through the monitor using NVIDIA Audio, but no sound is coming from your external sound system.
Before proceeding, I have a couple of quick questions:
- What type of sound system are you using (3.5 mm speakers, USB speakers, headset, or an AV receiver)?
- When the sound system is connected, does it appear under Settings > System > Sound > Output?
In the meantime, you can try these steps:
Option 1: Check disabled playback devices.
- Press Windows + R, type
mmsys.cpl, and press Enter. - Open the Playback tab.
- Right-click an empty area and enable Show Disabled Devices.
- If your speakers appear, right-click them and select Enable and Set as Default Device.
Option 2: Run the audio troubleshooter.
- Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Run Playing Audio.
Option 3: Test the speaker output jack.
- Connect a different headset or speaker to the same audio port.
- This helps determine whether the issue is related to the audio output device or the sound system itself.
