Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To remove former or current work email addresses from a personal Microsoft account, change the personal account’s sign-in alias first, then remove the work addresses.
- Go to Edit account info and sign in to the personal Microsoft account.
- In Your info, choose Add email if a non-work address is not already on the account.
- Set a personal address as the primary alias.
- Select Remove next to each work email address that should no longer be tied to the personal account.
Important details:
- Email addresses on a Microsoft account are aliases and share the same account settings, subscriptions, and password.
- If the same email address is being used for both a personal account and a work or school account, removing the work email from the personal account helps stop sign-in conflicts.
- If a work or school account still exists separately, that account is managed by the organization. Only the organization can remove or disable it on their side.
- If the goal is to stop the “Which account do you want to use?” prompt, renaming the personal Microsoft account by making a different alias primary is the recommended fix.
If access to the personal account is blocked, use the available support tools on the Microsoft account page, including the guided support tool or sign-in helper.
