    1. If more than one antivirus or antispyware app is installed, uninstall the extra one(s): Start > Settings > Apps > select the unwanted security app > Uninstall. Restart after each uninstall. Running multiple security apps at the same time can reduce performance and cause instability.
    2. Make sure protection stays enabled after uninstalling anything. When security software is removed, the PC can be left unprotected. Ensure Microsoft Defender Antivirus is enabled and Windows Firewall is turned on.
    3. Run a malware scan with Microsoft Safety Scanner. It is recommended for suspected infections and can detect and remove many common issues.
    4. If the same malware keeps returning, run Microsoft Defender Offline:
      • Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection
      • Under Current threats, select Scan options
      • Select Windows Defender Offline scan > Scan now
      • Save work first, because the PC will restart before the scan starts.
    5. If malware has caused irreversible changes, reset the PC. Back up files and settings first. Restore files from backups created before the infection when possible, because backups stored on the PC during infection may also be affected.
    6. If more help is needed, use Microsoft virus-related support:

    Hi Wayde Burkes,

Before trying to delete anything manually, please open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history and check the status of the seven detections.

If an item says Quarantined, Removed, or Cleaned, Windows Security has already taken action on it. If you see Action needed, open that item and choose the recommended action, such as Quarantine or Remove. Do not select Allow on device unless you are certain the file is safe.

Next, install any available Windows and security intelligence updates. Then return to Virus & threat protection > Scan options and run a Full scan. If the detections remain or return after restarting the laptop, save your open work and run Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) from the same Scan options page. The computer will restart during this scan.

You can find Microsoft’s instructions here:

Please also let me know which version of Windows the laptop is running and what status appears beside the seven detections in Protection history. A screenshot would help, but please cover any email address, device name, file path containing your username, or other personal information before posting it. Thank you so much for your understanding.
