As I do have Surface Pro 7 model, with Win11 & latest security updates. Still I couldn't change the forgotten password, while I didn't setup Security Qns or took usb flashdrive backup. However, I hv been logging into system using PIN or Facial Recognition. Now, I'm upgrading to next Surface Pro & wanted to take Backup/Restore option but Microsoft stops me & demands current password to change to Microsoft online account, as local account cannot take backup/restore. I'm stuck either way!

    Hello,

You will no longer be able to reset the 'Local account Password' using Windows Hello.

Instead, you will have to create a 'New Local Admin Account' and reset the password for your Local account from there.

    To do that,

    1. Type "Netplwiz" in the search bar on the taskbar and press Enter.
    2. Click Add > Sign in without a Microsoft account (Not recommended) > Local account.
    3. Create a new username and password.
    4. Then, go back to the User Accounts page, select the new local user you created > select Properties > click the 'Group Membership' tab and set this user as Administrator.

    Now,

    1. Sign out and sign in to the new Local Admin profile you created.
    2. Open Netplwiz >> select the Old user profile, and click 'Reset Password'.
    3. Set a new Password for your Old user profile.

    Then,

    1. Sign out and sign in to the Old Local User profile. (Sign in with the new password you created).
    2. Type sysdm.cpl and click Ok.
    3. Navigate to the Advanced tab and delete the new Local profile you created.
    4. Then go back to the Netplwiz window and delete the new local profile there as well.
