For an Acer A515-57 on Windows 11, use this order:

    1. Check microphone privacy access:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      • Turn on Microphone access.
      • Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
      • Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
    2. Check whether Windows can see any input device:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, check Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      • If the built-in mic appears, select it and run Start test under Microphone test.
    3. In Device Manager, check for audio device problems:
      • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Also check System devices for Intel Smart Sound Technology OED.
      • If Intel Smart Sound Technology OED shows a warning icon or Code 43, install the audio driver package for the exact Acer A515-57 submodel from Acer.
    4. If Windows is not detecting the microphone at all, reinstall the audio drivers:
      • In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click each audio device and select Uninstall device.
      • Select the checkbox to remove the driver, then uninstall.
      • Restart the PC.
      • After restart, if needed, go back to Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Then right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
    5. Check Windows driver updates:
      • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
      • Install available driver updates and restart.
    6. If the microphone still does not appear, install Acer-provided drivers for this model:
      • Install the latest audio driver for the exact A515-57 variant.
      • If available from Acer, also install the related chipset driver, since similar Acer cases were resolved after installing chipset and audio drivers.
    7. If the device was previously working and stopped after a recent driver change, a newer driver may be causing the issue. In a similar A515-57 case, the built-in mic started working again after the newer microphone-related driver was force-uninstalled so the older working version was used.

If the built-in microphone still is not detected after these steps, the remaining likely cause is a hardware connection or device-specific driver issue.

    Hi, @ioan brustur

If you haven’t tried it yet, first go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure "Microphone access" and "Let apps access your microphone" are turned on.

Then go to Settings > System > Sound > Input and check whether the built-in microphone appears there.

Also open Device Manager and expand "Audio inputs and outputs" and "Sound, video and game controllers." Check if the microphone or any audio device has a warning symbol.

If the issue still persists, to help narrow down the issue:

    1. Did the built-in microphone work before, or has it never worked on this Acer A515-57?
    2. Does any microphone device appear in Device Manager, even as an unknown device?
    3. Did this start after a Windows update, driver update, or reinstall?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

You likely have installed KB5124008 update. Some other users reported similar issue after that update. So you can uninstall KB5124008 update to fix the issue that it causes. The KB5124008 update fixes a large number of vulnerabilities, including actively exploited zero‑days. Uninstalling it significantly reduces your security posture, so you should only uninstall and test if microphone (or other critical features) doesn't work and you need them. Here are the release notes: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/os/windows-11/2026/09/kb5124008-windows-11-24h2-25h2-security-update

In case you want to uninstall:

    1. Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates.
    2. Uninstall KB5124008
    3. Pause Windows Update so it doesn’t get reinstalled, and resume it later when Microsoft has fixed it in an upcoming update.
