Difference in Family versus Individual plan

For Microsoft 365 home subscriptions, the main differences between an individual plan and a family plan are:

• Number of users
  • Individual: for 1 person.
  • Family: for up to 6 people.
• Subscription sharing
  • Family lets the subscription owner share benefits with up to 5 additional people.
  • Each shared person can install the apps and be signed in on five of their own devices at the same time.
• Cloud storage
  • Individual: 1 TB of OneDrive storage for the single subscriber.
  • Family: each person sharing the subscription gets their own 1 TB of OneDrive storage, for up to 5 additional people.
• AI/Copilot benefits
  • In Family, AI benefits are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with additional members.
  • For an individual plan such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Copilot grounding uses the account owner’s content only.
• Apps and core benefits
  • Both include always up-to-date desktop apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus cloud-connected features, security updates, and ongoing support.

If the need is only for one person, an individual plan fits that use. If multiple people in a household need their own installs and storage, Family is the main advantage.
