Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
If the account recovery form was already submitted and still failed, there is no email-based path that bypasses Microsoft’s account verification process. Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
The supported next steps are:
- Try the Sign-in Helper first if two-step verification was not turned on and the listed verification email or phone options are not recognized.
- Submit the Account recovery form again, using as much exact historical information as possible.
- Complete the form on a device previously used to sign in to that account, and from a familiar location such as home or work.
- Include as much account history as possible:
- exact email subject lines
- contacts previously emailed
- older passwords that may have been used
- Skype ID, contacts, or recent Skype purchase details if applicable
- Xbox console hardware ID from a frequently used console if applicable
- If the result is unsuccessful, the form can be retried up to two times per day.
- The result is sent to the working email address entered at the start of the form, usually within 24 hours.
Important limits:
- If two-step verification was turned on and access to all alternate verification methods is lost, support cannot help recover the account.
- If the message says “The Microsoft account you've entered does not exist”, check the spelling carefully, including the email domain such as
.comvs.co.uk, and try any other alias or phone number that may be on the account. - If the username is still not recognized after that, use the available Contact support option for the “username has stopped working” case.
