Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Since the payment was accepted, the most likely causes are that the subscription status has not fully synced yet, or the Office apps are still signed in with stale licensing information.
Try this in order:
- Close all Office apps.
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page and confirm the Microsoft 365 subscription is listed as active and the expiry date looks correct.
- Go to Payment options and make sure the updated card does not show an error.
- If the payment was only just processed, allow up to 24 hours for the payment status to sync fully.
- Open Word and sign out of Office from the top-right account menu.
- Restart the PC, then sign back in to Office with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- If the apps still will not open correctly, repair Office:
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- Find Microsoft Office 365
- Select the three dots > Modify
- Choose Online Repair
What to expect:
- If the subscription page shows active status and payment is valid, signing out and restarting often refreshes activation.
- If the payment was recent, the apps can continue showing account notices until the sync completes.
- If nothing changes after 24 hours and Online Repair, use Microsoft Support for account or subscription help.
