Hello Microsoft Support,

I am trying to recover my old Microsoft Outlook account, ******@outlook.com. I no longer have access to the account and would like help restoring access to it.

I am the original owner of this account and can provide information to verify my identity and ownership, including previous passwords, account details, or other information associated with the account.

I believe I lost access to the account because of a verification process after I moved to a different state. After moving, my internet connection and IP address changed. At some point, I was logged out of my account and Microsoft required me to enter a verification code to sign back in. Unfortunately, I never really had the opportunity to complete the verification process, and I have been unable to regain access to the account since then.

I would appreciate the opportunity to verify my identity and ownership through any recovery process available. Please let me know what information you need from me to confirm that I am the original owner of ******@outlook.com.

Please send any updates or instructions regarding this recovery request to my alternate email address:

******@outlook.com

Thank you for your time and assistance. I would greatly appreciate your help recovering my account.

Sincerely, Hunter Gill

What does the Account Sign-In Helper say about the status of your account and what recovery options does it offer?

    • In a Private/Incognito browser session, open: https://aka.ms/sign-in-helper
    • Scroll down to "Choose how you normally sign in, then enter your details"
    • Click "With an email address"
    • Enter your email address and click [OK]

Microsoft Account Security is an automated process. Microsoft Support Agents can not unlock an account, reset your password, or change any Security Settings no matter what documentation you can present.

Microsoft has made the automated recovery process untouchable. No human can exert any influence on your behalf. No human will ever look at your Account Recovery form. The automated process checks only if you have answered the specific questions on the form. Anything else is ignored.

    The available recovery options are:

    1. Try the Sign-in Helper first. It can identify many sign-in issues and is the recommended first step.
    2. If the account is not recognized and the message says "We couldn't find an account with that username" or "account doesn't exist", use the Sign-in Helper.
    3. If the username is correct but sign-in still fails, use Recover your account and follow the password reset flow:
      • Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in.
      • Choose where to receive the security code.
      • Enter the code.
      • Set a new password.
    4. If access to the usual verification methods is no longer available, complete the Account recovery form. To improve the chance of success:
      • Use a device previously used to sign in to the account.
      • Complete the form from a familiar location such as home or office.
      • Provide a working alternate email address that can receive the recovery result.
      • Include as much information as possible, such as old passwords, Outlook.com contacts, exact email subject lines, Skype details, Xbox console hardware ID if applicable, and other Microsoft services used with the account.
      • If unsure about some answers, provide the best possible information; wrong answers do not count against the recovery attempt.
    5. Microsoft reviews recovery form submissions and sends the result to the working email address provided, usually within 24 hours.
    6. If the account cannot be verified, the recovery form can be retried up to two times per day.
    7. If the account has not been signed in to for more than two years, it may have been deleted and cannot be reopened.
    8. If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
    9. For technical support, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support can help route the issue, but support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
