A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
For a deleted OneDrive personal account, recovery depends on where the files are now:
- Sign in to the OneDrive website with the same Microsoft account that was renewed.
- Open Recycle bin and restore any files or folders still listed there.
- If using OneDrive sync on Windows or Mac, also check the local Recycle Bin or Trash:
- In Windows, open Recycle Bin, right-click the file or folder, and select Restore.
- On Mac, open Trash, right-click the file or folder, and select Put back.
- If there are many deleted or changed files and there is a Microsoft 365 subscription, use Restore your OneDrive to roll the entire OneDrive back to an earlier point within the last 30 days:
- Go to the OneDrive website.
- Select Settings > Restore your OneDrive.
- Choose a date or Custom date and time.
- Review the activity feed and confirm the restore.
Important limits:
- If files were permanently deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, they cannot be recovered.
- Restoring OneDrive sends files or folders created after the restore point date to the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
- If the missing files were stored in Personal Vault, unlock it and use Show Personal Vault items in the recycle bin to check them.
- If the renewed subscription is on a different Microsoft account, the files may be under another OneDrive account. Sign out and sign back in with the account that originally held the files.
If the account was deleted because it was inactive for two years, the personal account may have been deleted.
