Posting from sales lines vs sales orders

Is there any work around being able to post line items from one sales order in 365 Business Central?

Example: one sales order has multiple lines that fall under different posting months. Sales lines shows each line with different shipment dates but only can post from the sales order? Has to be some type of work around for this? Want to be able to select the line item to post vs the whole sales order.

Yes. The supported workaround is to use partial posting from the sales order, not from the Sales Lines page.

For a single sales order with lines that belong to different posting periods:

    1. Open the Sales Order.
    2. On each line, set Qty. to Ship and Qty. to Invoice only for the lines that should be posted now.
    3. Leave the other lines at zero so they are not posted yet.
    4. Choose Post or Post and Send.
    5. In the posting option, choose:
      • Ship to invoice later, or
      • Ship and Invoice to post immediately.

This lets part of the order post now and the remaining lines stay on the order for a later posting.

Key limitation: posting is done from the Sales Order page. The context does not describe posting directly from the Sales Lines page.

Also, if Shipping Advice is set to Complete on the Shipping and Billing FastTab, partial shipments cannot be posted.

If the requirement is to invoice something that has not shipped, that cannot be done from Sales Orders. In that case, create the document on the Sales Invoices page, or use Make Invoice from Sales Quotes.

    Hi JoLene,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Since my current scope of support is primarily focused on Microsoft 365 products, while the issue you're experiencing is related to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, I want to make sure that you receive the most accurate and effective support.

For this reason, I recommend that you post your question in the Dynamics 365 Business Central Community Forum:

Find Answers | Microsoft Dynamics 365 Community

There, you will be able to receive answers from the appropriate specialized team and community members who regularly work with Business Central. They can provide more in-depth guidance regarding sales order posting behavior, sales lines, and available posting options or workarounds.

I apologize for directing you to another community, but because the scope of this category is primarily focused on Microsoft 365, my knowledge of Dynamics 365 Business Central is limited. Guiding you to the most suitable resource will help you get faster and more accurate support.

Thank you for your understanding. I appreciate your patience and wish you the best in resolving this issue.
