Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
I was never told that. I was told the only difference was from one person to 5. Can I pay the balance to bring it back to family? I use both excel and word daily.
Hi, @peter chambers
Yes, you can switch back to Microsoft 365 Family. Microsoft 365 Basic is not just the one-person version of Family. Basic does not include the desktop Word and Excel apps.
If you're now the only person using the subscription, Microsoft 365 Personal may also be enough, since it includes the desktop Word and Excel apps.
You normally don't just pay the price difference. When upgrading from Basic, you purchase Personal or Family using the same Microsoft account, and Microsoft converts the remaining time on the Basic subscription and adds it to the new subscription.
Before purchasing anything, please sign in to your Microsoft account under "Services & subscriptions" and check:
- Does it currently show Microsoft 365 Basic as active?
- Was the Basic code redeemed on the same Microsoft account you previously used for Family?

Thanks!
