My wife has an expiring subscription to office 365, and I already a copy that I would like to be able to share, but it does not appear to work to share it. I t keeps telling us I haven't shared it, but I have, multiple times.

I deleted the old requests, and have a current request pending, but it still gives that same message when we try to accept the sharing invite on her end..

    Hi, Rick Van Wieren

This looks more like a sign-in session or account-identity mix-up than a problem with the invitation itself. The invitation may open under a different Microsoft account already saved in the browser.

Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

On your wife’s device, sign out of every Microsoft account in the browser. Then open an InPrivate or Incognito window and go directly to the Microsoft Family page. Sign in using the exact personal Microsoft account that received the invitation and check for a pending invitation there. Accepting it directly from that page can avoid a broken or looping email link.

Make sure the invited address is a personal Microsoft account, not a work or school account. If the same email address exists as both account types, choose Personal account when prompted.

If it still fails, try another browser after clearing Microsoft-related cookies. Record the exact error message, date, time, and any TraceId shown, then contact Microsoft Support while signed in with the subscription owner’s account. Those details can help support identify a stuck server-side sharing record.

This usually happens when the invited account has not fully joined the subscription owner’s Microsoft family group, or the invited account is already in another family group or another shared subscription.

    Try this end-to-end path:

    1. Confirm the subscription can be shared.
      • Only Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, and Pro can be shared.
      • Only the subscription holder can share it.
      • Sharing is not available for Microsoft 365 Personal or Basic.
    2. Check whether shares are still available.
      • A Microsoft 365 Family or Premium subscription can be shared with up to five other people in the family group.
    3. Verify the invite was accepted correctly.
      • After the invite is sent, the recipient must select Join now and join the subscription owner’s family group.
      • The subscription dashboard may continue to show sharing as incomplete until that family-group join is completed.
      • Invitation links expire after 48 hours.
    4. Check whether the invited account is already in another family group.
      • If the invited account is already in another family group, acceptance will not complete properly.
      • That account must first leave the other family group, then accept the new sharing invitation again.
    5. Check whether the invited account already has another shared subscription.
      • If the invited person is already part of another shared subscription, the new share cannot be applied until that is no longer the case.
    6. Re-send the invite using a link instead of email.
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 sharing page.
      • Select Share.
      • Choose Create link and then Copy link.
      • Send that link directly and have it accepted within 48 hours.
      • This can help when email invitations remain pending or are not recognized correctly.
    7. If the wife’s current subscription is still active, let it expire first.
      • A user with an active standalone Microsoft 365 subscription may need to wait until that subscription expires before joining a shared Family subscription.
      • A practical approach is to turn off recurring billing on the existing subscription, wait until the paid period ends, and then accept the family sharing invitation.
    8. After acceptance, if OneDrive storage still does not update:
      • Verify the invitation link was accepted.
      • Wait up to 2 hours.
      • Go to Manage storage and Refresh the page.

If the goal is to move sharing ownership from one spouse to the other, that cannot be transferred directly during the current subscription period. The current subscription must expire, then the new owner purchases or uses their own subscription and manually shares it again with family members.
