I'm the only user and purchased the MS 365 subscription myself and don't have admin rights and I cannot access the Admin Center. I need to update my payment method and can't access the Admin Center.

What is the exact name of your Microsoft 365 subscription, such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium?
What happens when you try to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center? If you receive an error message, please share the exact message or a screenshot with any sensitive information removed.
Where did you originally purchase the subscription, directly from Microsoft or through a third-party provider?
Do you have access to any other account that may have been created when the subscription was purchased?

I get this error message Switch to an account that has permission Your account (xxxx.com) doesn’t have permission to view or manage this page in the Microsoft 365 Admin center

Purchased directly from Microsoft

I have access to my personal account.

Also when I try to call for support it asks if I'm the Global Admin, again if I'm the only user shouldn't I automatically be? But when I say yes I am it say's I'm not.

Since you purchased and activated the Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription for your organization, the account created during the initial setup would normally have been assigned the Global Administrator role by default.

I recommend the following checks:

1/ Locate the original Global Administrator account

When your Microsoft 365 subscription was first activated, Microsoft usually sent a welcome or confirmation email to the email address used during the purchase. This message may contain details, such as:

Your initial administrator username

Your tenant domain, for example, xxxx.onmicrosoft.com

Please try the following:

Search your inbox using keywords such as “Microsoft,” “Microsoft 365,” “Office 365,” “onmicrosoft.com,” “Welcome,” or “Your account.”

Check your Spam, Junk, Promotions, and Other folders, as automated messages may have been filtered there.

You may also refer to: I forgot the account I use with Microsoft 365.

If you locate the original administrator username, please sign out of all Microsoft accounts or open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window, then try signing in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with that account.

2/ Contact Microsoft Support for administrative access recovery

If you cannot locate the original Global Administrator account, or if you find the correct account but are still unable to sign in, In this case, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support and requesting assistance from the Data Protection team. They can guide you through the tenant ownership verification process and help recover access to the administrator account.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

(When you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help.)

In some regions, the initial interaction may be automated, so here’s a general idea of how the conversation might go to help you prepare:

What kind of problem are you experiencing?

Answer: Tenant lockout

What products do you use?

Answer: Office 365 for business

Is this for an education or company account?

Answer: For companies

Are you an administrator?

Answer: Yes

Are there any other administrators in your organization?

Answer: No. I am the only admin in my tenant

Do you need a... Service request?

Answer: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Teams.

When reaching out to the Data Protection team, please be prepared to provide any requested information, such as:

Tenant name/domain

Affected administrator account

Microsoft 365 subscription details

Proof of tenant/domain ownership, if required

Billing or subscription-related verification information

Any organizational documents requested by the recovery team

I also recommend calling during business hours. In my experience, it can be difficult to get through to the correct support queue, and automated systems don't always work as expected. If you can't get through on your first try, I suggest trying again later or at a different time.



I know being locked out of the only admin account can be stressful, but contacting the Data Protection team is the correct path forward in this scenario.
