To remove the Microsoft admin account from the laptop without losing admin access, first make sure there is another administrator account on the device for the son.
Recommended path:
- Add the son’s account to the PC.
- Press Start, type netplwiz, and press Enter.
- Select Add.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that should be used on the laptop.
- Make that new account an administrator.
- In netplwiz, select the new account.
- Open Properties or double-click the account.
- Go to Group Membership.
- Set it to Administrator.
- Save the change.
- Restart the laptop and sign in with the new administrator account.
- If needed, copy files from the old profile.
- Copy data from
C:\Users\old usernametoC:\Users\new usernamebefore deleting the old profile.

- Remove the old profile.
- Type sysdm.cpl in Start search and press Enter.
- Go to Advanced > Settings under User Profiles.
- Delete the old user profile.
- Remove the old account from Windows.
- Open Settings > Accounts > Other user.
- Under Other users, select the old account.
- Next to Account and data, select Remove.
Important:
- Do not remove the current account until another account is confirmed as Administrator, or admin access can be lost.
- Removing the account from Windows removes its sign-in information and data from the device, but does not delete the Microsoft account itself.
