I renewed my 365 three weeks ago. I have confirmed on the Account page that it is active.

I keep getting a "Subscription Canceled" message when I open Word and can not use it

Since the subscription is already showing as active, Word is likely still using an old license state or the wrong signed-in account.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Close all Office apps completely Close Word and any other Microsoft 365 apps.
    2. Verify the subscription on the correct Microsoft account Go to the Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the renewal. Confirm Microsoft 365 is listed as active.
    3. Refresh the license inside Word Open Word, then go to File > Account.
      • Make sure the signed-in account is the one that has the active subscription.
      • Select Update License if that option appears.
      • If multiple accounts are listed, sign out of the ones not associated with the subscription, then sign back in with the correct account.
    4. Restart Word After renewing, Office may continue showing Renew your subscription, Subscription expired, or similar notices until all Office apps are closed and reopened. A sign-in again may also be required.
    5. If the renewal was from a retail box or card, enter the product key If the renewal was purchased as a physical box or card, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed.
    6. Check the renewal status again On the Services & subscriptions page:
      • if recurring billing is on, the next renewal date should appear
      • if recurring billing is off, the expiration date should appear
    7. If the message still appears If the expiration date/status looks wrong, contact Microsoft Support. If Microsoft 365 is provided by work or school, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or IT department.

If Word remains unusable in the meantime, Microsoft 365 for the web apps can be used in a browser at microsoft365.com.

    Hi, @Lori Borschke

If it is active under https://account.microsoft.com/services please try these steps if you haven’t already:

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your license status.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
