I am trying to entering a new credit card for Office 365 payment as the old card has expired. All the card details are correct, yet the system says the details are wrong somewhere or the card is not accepted for some strange reason. I have checked it 100 times and the details are correct. Please resolve this so I can continue using Office 365.

Here are some common reasons when this could happen -

Your Microsoft 365 was initially redeemed from a third party purchase.

Or it was originally bought in a different country, and your credit card's billing address country is not a match.

Or your Micrsoft account's profile has the wrong country listed.

For scenarios 1 and 2, you just need to purchase it as a new subscription, don't try to renew.

For scenario 3, check https://account.live.com > Your info, and make sure the country is set up correctly.

If none of that is your scenario, contact billing support.

Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue. For a Microsoft 365 for Home subscription, this is usually caused by payment-profile validation rather than the card number itself. Use this order:

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Go to Payment options: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
    3. Check the payment method for any error and update it.
    4. Make sure the card details match exactly:
      • card number
      • expiration date
      • name on the card
      • billing address, including city, state, and ZIP/postal code
    5. Confirm the subscription is still active on Services & subscriptions: https://account.microsoft.com/services
    6. If the subscription is past due, select Pay now for that subscription and complete payment after updating the payment method.

    Important checks from Microsoft guidance:

    • If the card was declined, verify the details exactly as shown on the card and statement.
    • Make sure there are sufficient funds available.
    • If the payment method shows an error, update it before retrying.
    • If the card continues to be declined, contact the bank because the card might be inactive or blocked.
    • For Microsoft 365 business accounts, the payment method must be issued from the same country or region as the tenant.

If the warning in Office says “Account Notice. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription”, that commonly means the subscription payment failed because the card expired or was canceled. Updating the payment method on the Payment options page is the documented fix.

If the card still cannot be added or updated after that, contact Microsoft support for billing assistance.
