My business email account (email 1) was deleted, and then a new one was created (email 2), using the same email address. However, the content of email 1 needs to be restored. How do I do this?

This happened about a week ago.

Thank you

    Dear @IBH-work acct,

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that your original business email account was deleted and a new account was created using the same email address. You need to restore the mailbox content from the deleted account, and this occurred approximately one week ago.

To better understand the situation, could you please help confirm the following:

    • I could see that your account is in the "For business" forum/tag, but may I reconfirm: Is this email account hosted in Microsoft 365/Exchange Online?
    • Are you a Microsoft 365 Global Admin or do you have access to your organization's Microsoft 365 admin center?

Before proceeding, could you please check with your organization's IT Administrator or Global Administrator to confirm whether restoring the original user account is an option? If the account was deleted recently, restoring the original user may be the most straightforward way to recover the mailbox and its contents.

Regarding this situation, kindly try the following suggestions:

    • Restore the deleted user account/mailbox (if still within the retention period): Kindly ask your IT/Global Admin to review the guidance and check whether the original user account can be restored: Delete or restore user mailboxes in Exchange Online
    • Restore mailbox content to the new mailbox: If the original mailbox still exists as a recoverable mailbox and the user has already been recreated, your administrator may be able to use a mailbox restore request to merge the contents from the old mailbox into the new mailbox using this PowerShell cmdlet: New-MailboxRestoreRequest

Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful.

I'm here and happy to help! Thank you for your kindness and patience!
