Locked out of Alias account, can't sign in to old or new e-mail address

If the old address was removed as an alias, it cannot be recovered or added back. Microsoft-domain aliases such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, and @msn.com are permanently deleted when removed and cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again.

If the alias was not deleted, but sign-in was blocked for that alias, sign in with another alias on the same Microsoft account that still allows sign-in. If the blocked alias is the one being entered and the error is "This username has been turned off for sign-in," use Forgot your username? to identify the account, receive the code at the primary alias, and then sign in with an alias that is allowed for sign-in.

If the password is correct but sign-in still fails:

1. Use Recover your account at https://account.live.com/password/reset.
2. Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in.
3. Choose where to receive the security code.
4. Enter the code, then set a new password.

If the issue is broader account access, use the Microsoft Sign-in Helper tool. It checks the account details provided and guides the recovery steps.

If access is restored and the goal is to stop sign-in attempts on the old address without losing mail delivery:

1. Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/.
2. Go to Your info > Sign-in preferences.
3. Leave the old alias on the account, but clear its sign-in permission.
4. Save the change.

That prevents the old alias from being used to sign in while keeping aliases on the same account sharing the same mailbox, contacts, storage, subscriptions, and settings.

If support is needed, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
