For the Microsoft 365 for Mac 0x0 activation error, the supported fix is to update Office and confirm macOS is at least version 12.
- Check that macOS is version 12 or later.
- Close all Office apps.
- If Office was installed from microsoft.com:
- Open Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate.
- If Microsoft AutoUpdate is not visible, check
/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/. - Select Update All, or update each Office app individually.
- If the apps were installed from the Mac App Store:
- Open App Store.
- Select Updates in the sidebar.
- Update Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
- After updates finish, open an Office app again and test sign-in.
If Office was installed from one source but updated or reinstalled from another source, use the install source that matches the purchase source:
- App Store purchase/subscription: install from the App Store.
- Microsoft purchase/subscription: install from the Microsoft 365 install experience.
If Microsoft AutoUpdate shows update failures, uninstalling and reinstalling from the correct source is a documented path used in similar cases.
