Request for Global Administrator recovery or domain release from an orphaned managed tenant

A verified Microsoft 365 tenant exists on a domain our business owns and controls, and no identity available to us can sign in to it. The subscription is still billing monthly.

Tenant details, all confirmed through public realm and OpenID endpoints without a login. Domain: structured-sales-solutions.com. Tenant name: Structured Sales Solutions. Tenant ID: 1**[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]Namespace type: Managed, verified, live. Domain verification record present in DNS: MS=[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]**

What has been tried: two sign-in attempts at login.microsoftonline.com, both failing cleanly. A personal Microsoft account belonging to the business owner authenticates but is not a member of this tenant. The mailbox address on the domain itself does not exist as any Microsoft identity, returning "username may be incorrect".

No welcome or receipt email can be found in any mailbox the business controls, so there is no record of who created the tenant or when.

Self-service admin takeover appears unavailable here, since the documentation scopes it to unmanaged directories and excludes tenants carrying SharePoint or OneDrive service plans. That is why this is a request for assisted recovery rather than a question about the takeover flow.

What is being asked, either outcome is acceptable: first, restore Global Administrator access to the tenant, so the subscription can be reviewed and either kept or cancelled properly. Second, release the domain structured-sales-solutions.com from the tenant and terminate the associated subscription.

The subscription is charging the business monthly on a recurring mandate. Exact amounts and dates can be provided privately to anyone able to act on them.

Full control of the domain's DNS is available and any TXT verification record can be published on request, usually within the hour. Whatever proof of ownership is needed, it can be provided immediately.

A case number would be welcome, as there is no existing case to reference.

    Hi @METE GUNESER,

Because this is a user-to-user support forum, contributors here are not part of Microsoft's internal support teams and do not have the permissions required to restore Global Administrator access, release a domain from a tenant, terminate a subscription on your behalf, or create a support case for you. However, I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

As a next step, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support by phone so the frontline support team can create a support case and route it to the Data Protection Team for further assistance. You can find the appropriate phone number for your region here: Contact Microsoft customer support

In this situation, the Microsoft Data Protection team has tools and processes in place to verify identity and regain access to administrator accounts.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

(When you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help.)

In some regions, the initial interaction may be automated, so here’s a general idea of how the conversation might go to help you prepare:

What kind of problem are you experiencing?

    Answer: Authenticator

    What products do you use?

    Answer: Office 365 for business

Is this for an education or company account?

    Answer: For companies

    Are you an administrator?

    Answer: Yes

Are there any other administrators in your organization?

Answer: No. I am the only admin in my tenant

Do you need a... Service request?

Answer: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Teams.

During the phone call, you will need to provide the information associated with your subscription, such as your company name, billing details, phone number, and an alternate email address, etc. This information allows the Data Protection team to verify your identity and securely assist you in regaining access to your administrator account.

Once administrator access has been successfully restored, you can then manage the tenant directly, including reviewing the subscription, cancelling it if appropriate, and removing or releasing the domain.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction, and I wish you the best of luck with the recovery process.

Thank you so much for taking the time.
