How can I use my old microsoft password? I want to switch back to it, but the system rejects it and requires me to use a new one.

    Hi Alan,

It depends whether it is a personal Microsoft account or a Work or School account and how recently you used it.

For Personal Microsoft Accounts: You can reuse older passwords for personal accounts if it's not the recent one. Because if you try to change your password to a very recent one Microsoft Account security system will usually block it and display a message stating that you cannot use a recent password.

    How to try changing it:

    1. Go to your Microsoft Account Security page.
    2. Select Change my password.
    3. Enter your current password, then type your preferred old password as your new password. If it has been long enough since you last used it, the system will accept it.

If this is an organization managed account then it is nearly impossible because it's strictly controlled by your organization IT administrator's security policy.

Microsoft do not allow us to use a previous password on the Microsoft account, it is a security feature to protect your account and prevent hackers accessing your account, this is not specific to Microsoft accounts, most online platforms do not allow previous passwords to be used again.

The best option is to change just one character in your old password for the new password, so you can easily remember the new password, that will then be accepted as a new password on your account.
