A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Yes. The simplest way is to choose one main location and make that the default save location.
Two supported ways:
- Use OneDrive as the main location
- Windows can save common folders like Desktop, Documents, and Pictures to OneDrive.
- If OneDrive backup is enabled, those folders are moved under the OneDrive folder, which is why local folders may look empty or appear in a different place.
- To make those folders stay together in OneDrive, use OneDrive folder backup / Manage backup.
- Use one local folder on the PC instead
- In Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project:
- Go to File > Options > Save.
- Turn on Save to Computer by default.
- Set Default local file location to the folder wanted.
- This makes new files save to one local folder by default for that app.
- In Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project:
Important limits:
- OneDrive cannot sync arbitrary folders outside the OneDrive folder. For older Windows guidance, only certain folders such as Desktop or library folders can be redirected into OneDrive.
- The default working folder in Office is set per app, not once for all apps.
- If the goal is to move the entire OneDrive folder to a different place, that is a separate change: OneDrive must be unlinked, moved, and then relinked.
If folders already seem split between locations, that is often because Documents/Desktop/Pictures were redirected into OneDrive. In that case, the files are commonly under the OneDrive folder rather than the old local folder.
