Signing on to a new computer using my current email address

I am ridding myself of a Windows 10 labtop and going with a Dell windows 11 laptop. I'm attempting to set up the new laptop using my currently active email address in the laptop. Each time I try to enter the email address, the computer say I've lost connection to the internet. Impossible because the old computer is still connected not three inches apart. The new computer wants me to use a new email address....Please advise, thank you.

Hello,

You can use a wired network connection, such as Ethernet, or USB tethering through your mobile device. Then, check whether you can sign in and set up Windows using your Microsoft account.

On the 'Let's connect your PC to a Network' screen, switch to another network or use the Wired network connection.

If you are still having issues, set up Windows using a local account first,

On the 'Let's connect your PC to a Network' screen, do not connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Then, press SHIFT + F10 to bring up the command prompt window.

Run the command below to set up your device using a local account.

start ms-cxh:localonly

You can then switch to a Microsoft account after setting up Windows.

Use the existing Microsoft account. A new email address is not required.

Try this path:

Verify that the email is already a Microsoft account by signing in at Microsoft Account.
- If sign-in works there, the account is valid.
If Windows setup keeps saying the internet connection is lost, switch the network and try again.
- Use a different connection such as a mobile hotspot.
- Avoid public or captive Wi-Fi networks.
- Then retry the same email address.
If setup still blocks progress, finish setup temporarily without using that account.
- Complete setup with another existing Microsoft account, or
- Set up the PC with a local account first, then switch it afterward.
After reaching the desktop, connect the intended Microsoft account in Windows.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info and switch to the Microsoft account, or
- If the device was set up with a local account, follow the Windows steps to change from a local account to a Microsoft account.
If the email address is not yet attached to the Microsoft account in the way needed for sign-in, add it as an alias.
- Go to the Microsoft account how you sign in page.
- Select Add email.
- Follow the prompts to add the current email address or create a new Outlook.com alias attached to the same Microsoft account.

Important details:

An alias is another email address that uses the same Microsoft account, inbox, contacts, subscriptions, and settings.
If creating a new Microsoft account is attempted instead, an old address cannot be reused for a new account.

If account creation is the only option shown during setup, complete setup with a local account first, then change it to the Microsoft account afterward.
