Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
For Classic Outlook for Windows, use this recovery path:
- Check Deleted Items first.
- In the folder list, expand Deleted Items.
- Look for the deleted folder.
- If the folder is there, drag it back to its original location in the mailbox.
- This restores the folder together with all messages it still contains.
- If the folder is not in Deleted Items, try recovering the messages from Recoverable Items.
- Make sure Outlook is online and connected to the mail server.
- Select Deleted Items.
- On the Home tab, select Recover Deleted Items From Server.
- Select the deleted items to recover, then select Restore Selected Items > OK.
- Important limitation:
- A folder that was permanently deleted cannot itself be recovered as a folder in Classic Outlook.
- Only the messages from that deleted folder may be recoverable through Recover Deleted Items From Server.
- If Recover Deleted Items From Server is missing:
- The account does not support recovering items that are no longer in Deleted Items.
- If the missing items do not appear in the recovery window:
- Contact the system administrator immediately.
- Deleted items are retained for a limited period in Exchange before they are removed.
