Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
For a university account, this is typically an MFA registration or notification-routing issue with Microsoft Authenticator.
Try these steps in order:
- Open Microsoft Authenticator and make sure the app itself opens normally, is responsive, and shows the account.
- Make sure Authenticator is unlocked. For work or school accounts, sign-in approval may fail if the app is locked.
- Check that notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator. Silent or disabled notifications can prevent the approval prompt from appearing.
- Update Microsoft Authenticator from the device app store.
- Restart the phone.
- If sign-in still fails, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data and try again.
- Check the phone date and time settings and make sure they are correct.
- If the notification may be going to an older phone, check that device. Authenticator can send the push to the device where the app was last used.
- If another verification method is available, select Other ways to sign in and use that method.
If the account is a school account and the app still will not send or approve the verification, the university IT administrator needs to reset or require re-registration of MFA. This is the standard resolution when access is stuck in an Authenticator loop for a school-managed account.
If available before contacting IT, send app logs from Authenticator: open the app menu, then select Send feedback.
