If this is a personal Microsoft account password reset:

1. On the sign-in page, select Forgot password?. If the password window is no longer open, use Reset password.
2. Enter the username for the account and select Next.
3. Choose where to receive the verification code.
4. Retype the first part of the email address or the last four digits of the phone number shown, then select Get code.
5. Enter the verification code and select Next.
6. Type the new password and select Next.

If the verification options are no longer accessible, use the Sign-in helper tool.

If this is a Windows local account and sign-in uses a PIN:

1. On the Windows sign-in screen, select the arrow next to the password field.
2. Select OK and then Reset password.
3. Answer the security questions configured for that account.

For a work or school account:

1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
2. Select Can't access your account?
3. Enter the work or school account and complete the verification steps.
4. If Contact your administrator appears instead of Get back into your account, self-service password reset is not enabled and the administrator must reset it.

Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password, and support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
