Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
To change the password for a business email account, change it in the account service first, then update Outlook if needed.
For Outlook Web App:
- Sign in to Outlook Web App using the URL provided by the organization’s email administrator.
- Select Settings > Change password.
- Follow the prompts on the Change password page.
If the password cannot be changed there, the mailbox settings may not allow it. In that case, contact the organization’s helpdesk.
For Microsoft 365 for business or education accounts, account settings such as password can be changed from the Microsoft 365 business account settings experience.
If Outlook for Windows stops sending or receiving mail after the password change:
- Open Control Panel.
- Open Mail.
- Select Email Accounts.
- Select the account, then choose Change.
- Verify the User Name and Password.
- If required by the email provider, use the generated passcode instead of the regular password when two-factor authentication is enabled.
If the goal is also to set up Outlook for a new Microsoft 365 business email account:
- Open Outlook.
- Select File > Info > Add Account.
- Enter the Microsoft email address and select Connect.
