Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Common reasons Microsoft 365 appears to bill twice in a month are:
- A previously declined payment was retried, so a late payment and the next on-time payment can appear close together.
- There may be more than one subscription or more than one Microsoft account using the same payment method.
- Recurring billing may be enabled on a subscription.
- For Microsoft 365 business subscriptions, two invoices can appear in the same month at renewal because one invoice is for the previous term and another is for the new term. These are different service periods, not necessarily duplicate charges.
- Changes to an existing subscription, such as adding licenses, can be billed the next day and appear as an extra invoice.
To verify what happened:
- Check order history for multiple purchases of the same amount close together.
- If only one charge appears in order history but multiple charges appear on the bank statement, investigate whether another account is using the same card.
- If this is a business subscription, compare the service period or billing period on page 2 of the invoice or in Bills and payments to confirm whether the charges are for different periods.
