I have uninstalled the sound driver as I had no sound. I believed it would reinstall automatically when the laptop was restarted but this did not happen. How do i reinstall it?

    Welcome Karol Richardson,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that after uninstalling the audio driver, Windows did not automatically reinstall it and your laptop now has no sound.

Could you please let us know:

    • What is the make and model of your laptop?
    • In Device Manager, do you see any devices with a yellow warning icon under Sound, video and game controllers or Other devices?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

Option 1: Scan for hardware changes

    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager
    • Click the Action menu
    • Select Scan for hardware changes

Option 2: Restart the Windows Audio service

    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
    • Locate Windows Audio
    • Confirm it is Running and Startup Type is set to Automatic

    Option 3: Check Device Manager

    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
    • If your audio device appears, right-click it and select Update driver
    • Choose Search automatically for drivers

Hi Karol, you need to go to the support page for our laptop on the manufacturers website to download and reinstall the version of HD Audio drivers they provide, that will be the most compatible audio drivers for your laptop.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, I will find the correct drivers for you, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.
