Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
If the account is blocked and the only recovery email shown is a permanently closed address, the supported recovery path is:
- Start with the Sign-in Helper. It checks the account details provided and either gives self-help steps or offers the chance to talk to an agent.
- If the password is forgotten, use Reset password.
- If no valid verification option is available, or the recovery email/phone shown is not recognized or no longer accessible, use the Sign-in Helper.
- If the account recovery form is needed, complete it from a device previously used to sign in and from a familiar location such as home or office. The form is here: Account recovery form.
- If the username and password have stopped working, use Recover your account.
Important limits:
- Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
- If two-step verification is turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support cannot bypass that protection.
- Account recovery is primarily an automated process.
For live support options, use Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support if that option is offered.
