Why am I being charged for Microsoft one drive and outlook? If I cancel will I loose my email service?

A charge for OneDrive and Outlook is commonly tied to a Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft 365 benefits can include 1 TB of OneDrive storage, advanced security in Outlook, and an ad-free Outlook.com experience. A small monthly charge can also be for Microsoft 365 Basic.

If the charge is unexpected, check which subscription is active:

Go to Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account used for purchase.
Select Manage on the subscription.
If the subscription was bought through Microsoft, management options appear there. If it was bought through a third-party retailer, management is redirected to that retailer.
If the charge is not recognized, use Manage your payments to investigate it.

If the subscription is canceled, the Outlook.com email account is still kept. The premium benefits are removed, but the email account continues to work.

What changes after cancellation:

Outlook.com account remains available.
Premium Outlook.com benefits are deactivated.
OneDrive storage drops to 5 GB.
Outlook.com storage is 15 GB.
If storage usage is above the free allowance, new OneDrive uploads, edits, and sync stop, and sending or receiving email in Outlook.com may stop until usage is reduced.
If it is a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, shared users also lose their increased storage allowance.

To cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription bought from Microsoft:

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy the subscription.
Select Cancel subscription or Upgrade or Cancel.
Review the cancellation page and confirm cancellation.
If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of cancel options, the subscription is already set to expire and no further action is required.

Important purchase-source exceptions:

If purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and refunds must be handled with that store.
If purchased through another retailer such as Amazon, cancellation must be handled with that retailer directly.
To avoid another renewal charge, cancellation should be done more than 2 days before the billing date.

You are being charged because you apparently have an active Microsoft 365 subscription that provides extra storage and premium features for OneDrive and Outlook. Canceling the subscription will keep your basic email account active, but your storage limits will be reduced.

You signed up for a paid plan, such as Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, or Family, that automatically renews monthly or annually. The subscription increases your storage from the free allowance to 1 TB, or 100 GB for Microsoft 365 Basic, across OneDrive and Outlook. Microsoft automatically charges the payment method on file until you turn off recurring billing or cancel the subscription. If you were charged by mistake or need help reversing a recent charge, you can check your options through Microsoft Subscription Support.

Your Outlook.com email address and account will not be deleted when you cancel. You can continue to sign in and use the basic email service. However, your storage limits will revert to the free levels. This includes 15 GB for your Outlook mailbox and 5 GB for OneDrive. If your existing emails and files exceed the available free storage after the subscription ends, you will not be able to send or receive new emails until you delete enough items to bring your storage usage below the applicable limits.
