This usually happens because Word is still using the old subscription or account after the switch to Microsoft 365 Family.

    Try this in order:

    1. Confirm the Family subscription is active
      • Go to Services & subscriptions.
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that was added to the Family plan.
      • Verify that Microsoft 365 Family appears as active or shared to that account.
    2. Sign out of Word and sign back in with the correct account
      • Open Word.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Sign out of every account shown under the Office account area.
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Open Word again and sign in with the Microsoft account that shows the active Family benefit.
    3. If Word still shows the subscription notice, check payment status
      • Go to Payment options.
      • Make sure the payment method does not show an error.
      • If needed, update the payment method, then restart Word.
    4. If the document is still read-only or commands are grayed out, check whether the file is locked by someone else
      • If the file is in a shared location and another person has it open in the desktop Office app, editing can be blocked.
      • In that case, use File > Save As to create a new copy and edit that copy.
    5. If nothing changes after renewal or switching plans
      • Close all Office apps and restart the device.
      • Reopen Word and check whether the yellow subscription notice is gone.

If the notice is ignored, Office can go into reduced functionality mode: documents can still be opened and printed, but not edited or created.
