Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Yes. For New Outlook, the available Microsoft guidance covers both setup and sending encrypted messages:
- Set up encryption and digital signatures first: Outlook requires setup before sending encrypted mail. This applies to New Outlook, classic Outlook, and Outlook on the web.
- Send encrypted mail in New Outlook:
- Open a new email.
- Select Options.
- Select Encrypt.
- Choose the protection you want, such as Encrypt or Do Not Forward.
- Finish the message and select Send.
Important details for New Outlook:
- New Outlook supports Microsoft 365 Message Encryption when the email server has an Office 365 Enterprise E3 license.
- If that is not available, encrypted messages can be sent using S/MIME.
- S/MIME and Microsoft Purview Message Encryption with IRM should not be combined on the same message. If a message is already signed or encrypted with S/MIME, remove that before applying IRM protection.
