“My personal Microsoft account has been incorrectly provisioned as a Work Account inside a tenant I do not control. I cannot leave the organisation, cannot delete the tenant, and cannot switch directories. Please remove my MSA from the Azure AD tenant and delete the tenant if possible.”

Give them these details:

  • Account: ******@gmail.com
  • Tenant name: Default Directory
  • Tenant domain: garytinkergmail.onmicrosoft.com
  • Tenant ID: 50464b87‑922f‑485e‑8ff5‑3fa18f53795d

They will know exactly what to do.

Dear Gary Tinker,

Thank you for providing the details. Based on the scenario you described, if the account is associated with a tenant that belongs to an organization and you are not a tenant administrator, there is unfortunately no self-service method available to remove the association yourself.

In this case, the only practical option is to contact that organization's IT administrator and ask them to review your account's presence in their Microsoft Entra ID tenant and assist with any changes that are available from their side.

If your account has been added to or associated with their directory, only the tenant administrators can review and make changes to that association. For reference: Leave an organization where you have a guest account

However, if you do not know who manages the tenant, or if there is no accessible administrator, then your only remaining option is to contact Microsoft Support for further support

  • Visit this website:  Contact - Microsoft Support
  • Type your problem in the search box there. ( For example: Contact support)
  • Now click on Get Help and select Contact Support below.

Note: The support contact team only works at certain times, so if the last window shows that it's unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. This way, they can call you and help you.

Please rest assured that your personal Microsoft account is safe. Being associated with a tenant that you do not control does not give other users or administrators access to your personal Microsoft account, personal email, password, or personal Microsoft services. They cannot make changes to your personal Microsoft account itself.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or if I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to your update.

Note: This issue cannot be resolved by any community users or forum contributors because removing a Microsoft Account (MSA) from an Azure AD/Microsoft Entra tenant, deleting a tenant, or making backend directory changes would need to be handled either by the organization's IT administrator or by Microsoft Support.
