Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Try these steps in order:
- Open Microsoft Authenticator manually instead of waiting for a pop-up.
- During sign-in, if a number is shown on the Power BI sign-in screen, open the Authenticator app and look for the pending sign-in request.
- For some sign-ins, especially unusual or anomalous ones, the notification might not appear automatically. Open Authenticator and refresh it by pulling down or tapping Refresh.
- Make sure the app is ready to approve sign-in.
- If this is a work or school account, unlock the Authenticator app first.
- If the app is locked, the number entry box or approval prompt might not appear.
- Check notification and phone settings.
- In the phone settings, confirm push notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator.
- Make sure the phone is not in Do Not Disturb or Quiet mode.
- In Authenticator, check Settings > Notification Settings and make sure Show notifications is turned on.
- Check connectivity and device state.
- Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off.
- If using a VPN, disconnect it temporarily and test again.
- Verify the device Date & time are correct.
- Update the app and device.
- Install the latest Microsoft Authenticator version. Versions older than 12 months are not supported.
- Make sure the phone OS and related security apps are up to date.
- If notifications still do not arrive, remove and re-add the affected account in Authenticator.
- This is recommended when notifications work for some accounts but not for one specific account.
- Risk: removing the account can interrupt sign-in until the account is added again.
- If repeated sign-in attempts were made, stop and wait before retrying.
- Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can temporarily block additional attempts after unusual repeated sign-ins.
- If available, use a different MFA method.
- If no alternate sign-in method is available and the loop continues:
- For a work or school Power BI account, contact the organization's IT admin and ask them to investigate the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs and help reset or re-register MFA.
- If this is the only admin account and access is completely blocked, contact Microsoft support by phone so the case can be routed for account recovery assistance.
If the issue persists after the checks above, send diagnostics from the app: open Authenticator, go to the app’s top-level menu, and select Send feedback.
