Since the printer still works from the iPhone and iPad, the printer itself and the network are likely working. Focus on the Windows laptop.
- Restart the printer.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check the laptop-to-printer connection.
- If it is a wireless printer, make sure the printer’s wireless option is turned on.
- If the home has multiple Wi-Fi networks, access points, or extenders, make sure the laptop is connected to the same network as the printer.
- If it is USB-connected, make sure the cable is firmly connected.
- Run the Windows printer troubleshooter.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer, then select More devices and printer settings.
- Right-click the printer and select Troubleshoot.
- Follow the wizard.
- Update or reinstall the printer driver.
- Select Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Printers.
- Right-click the printer and select Update driver.
- If no update is found, select Uninstall device.
- Restart the laptop so Windows can try to reinstall the driver automatically.
- Remove and add the printer again.
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer and choose Remove.
- Then select Add device next to Add a printer or scanner and follow the prompts.
- Make sure the printer is set as default.
- Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer > Manage > Set as default.
- Restart the app and the laptop.
- Close the app being used to print.
- Restart the PC.
- Open the app again and try printing.
- If printing from Office apps, update Office.
- In an Office app, select File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- Also run Microsoft Update.
- Check the printer manufacturer’s site for the latest driver for the exact HP model.
If the laptop is on a managed network, contact the administrator.
