I'm being billed for months for something I didn't order!

Hi,

I just noticed that I am being charged for a Microsoft product on my credit card. I also discovered that I have been charged for this for many months ($9.99/month for almost a year). I did not order this and I have no idea what it is for. I have always used Microsoft office products that I purchase one time and download, but not subscribe to. I have not used whatever product I am being billed for and, up until now, was unaware of the charges. Please help resolve this issue, as I've been billed a lot for something I've never used. Thank you,

Barry Mark

    Hi, Barry

This forum is public, no one from here has access to your Microsoft account.

Please sign in to your Microsoft account and review these pages:

If there's nothing listed there, check order history:

    • Please sign in to your Microsoft account’s billing page at https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders
    • Adjust the date range to include the purchase date.
    • Then click “Show details” under each order to see what the charge is for.
    • If it doesn’t look familiar, click “Order help” and then select “How to investigate a billing charge.” Follow the prompts to investigate the billing charges and find out more about them.

If you don’t see this subscription under your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services, please check a few things so the charge can be narrowed down:

    1. How did you get notified about the charge? (bank alert, email, etc.)
    2. What exactly does the charge description say in your statement?
    3. Do you have another Microsoft account (work, old email, family member) where your card might be added?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

If you didn't make the purchase, then someone else did. Who else has your credit card information?

You've been charged $9.99/month for almost a year, and you just now noticed it?

Use this Microsoft billing investigation path first:

    1. Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate.
    2. Review the charge to identify the most likely cause. Microsoft lists these common causes for an unrecognized charge:
      • a subscription with recurring billing enabled
      • a purchase by someone known to the cardholder, such as a family member
      • a previously declined charge that was charged again
      • a pre-order or split order that shipped
      • an in-app purchase
    3. Check order history for multiple purchases of the same amount close together.
    4. If the charge does not appear in the Microsoft account order history, another Microsoft account may be using the same card. From Payment options, select Investigate to search for other accounts using the card.

For the “many months” of $9.99 charges, also check whether this was a recurring subscription charge rather than a one-time purchase. If a subscription was cancelled very close to the billing date, a payment can still be taken; cancellations must be made more than 2 days before the billing date.

If the charge is still not recognized after using Investigate, contact Microsoft Support through Get Help and Contact Support.

If there is any sign the card details were used without authorization, contact the bank or payment provider immediately and report the card as stolen or compromised to prevent further charges.
